DESCRIPTION:Are you taking yourself and your art too seriously? \nHave you become obsessed with perfection? Has painting become hard\, or worse\, a chore? Do you ever feel your work isn’t “good” enough? Have you lost that “spark” when approaching a blank canvas? Let’s work on that together!\n\nNew to acrylic (or any) painting?\nThis is a great place to start! We’ll start with some very basic fundamentals about color and composition\, and then move on to the FUN STUFF! We’ll experiment with color\, texture\, mark making\, scraping\, runs\, drips\, splatter\, and other techniques as we tap our creative/playful nature using acrylic paint and all kinds of unconventional “tools”. SUMMARY:Introduction to Contour Drawing
DESCRIPTION:Join artist Jill Sneed for a fun\, beginner‑friendly introduction to contour drawing—a simple drawing technique that helps you slow down\, look closely\, and really notice what’s in front of you. \nIf you’ve always wanted to learn to draw but aren’t sure where to start\, this workshop is a great first step. And if you already enjoy drawing but want to build confidence or try a new style\, you’ll feel right at home too. Contour drawing teaches you to stop relying on the brain’s quick “I know what that looks like” guesses and instead pay attention to the real lines and shapes you see. It’s a gentle\, encouraging way to improve your drawing skills. \nDuring this 2‑hour workshop\, we’ll practice three different types of contour drawing\, and if you’d like\, you can add color with watercolor and colored pencils. Everything is taught step‑by‑step\, with plenty of time to explore and enjoy the process. \nEach participant will receive a sketchbook to keep. \nThe following supplies will be provided for use during class (feel free to bring your own if you prefer): \n\nFineliners (waterproof\, archival pens)\nWatercolor paints\nPaint brushes\nWhite gel pens\nColored pencils\n\nThis workshop is free to attend (+supply fee) for Iowa Artists Member.
