Iowa Artists, a nonprofit educational group was founded in 1970 by Jack Olds, an assistant professor of art at the University of Northern Iowa. Originally meant as an adult continuing education program for the arts, it was chartered in 1972 with Dorothy Timmons serving as president as the Iowa Amateur Artist. In 1988, the organization’s name was changed to Iowa Artists and has continued under this designation since.
